Road collapses in Trabzon, vehicle dragged into creek bed

Heavy rainfall in Trabzon caused a road collapse in the Pelitli Neighborhood. During the collapse of a section of the neighborhood road, a car passing by was dragged toward the creek bed.

Kenan Şahin, 52, and Yalçın Özer, 50, who were in the vehicle, were injured. Upon notification, health, gendarmerie, fire department, and AFAD teams were dispatched to the area.

The two individuals, who received initial medical intervention at the scene, were taken to Kanuni Training and Research Hospital. It was reported that Şahin and Özer were discharged following their treatment.

Security measures were taken on the road, which was closed to traffic due to the collapse. The Tofaş-brand vehicle that was dragged into the creek bed was removed from the site with the help of a crane.

Pelitli Neighborhood Headman Temel Bereketoğlu stated that the collapse occurred around 04:00 in the morning and said, “Two of our friends were injured in the collapse. Their condition is good. We have provided the information to all units, and the necessary intervention will be carried out.”

Bereketoğlu said that there had been no problems in the area before, but the collapse occurred following the heavy rainfall. It was noted that some hazelnut fields were also damaged by the collapse.

Neighborhood resident Samet Koç stated that the fact that the incident did not coincide with the passage of a shuttle or bus prevented a greater danger. Work is expected to begin to reopen the road to traffic following an inspection of the area.
