Gerçek Gündem news website editor Furkan Karabay had reported on the trial of Barış Saral from the Sarallar group and allegations concerning a prosecutor.

Karabay, who reported on the transcripts of a non-confidential hearing, was faced with charges of "targeting a person involved in the fight against terrorism" and "slander."

International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) General Secretary Anthony Bellanger supported Furkan Karabay in a statement.

'JOURNALISTS SUFFER THIS PAIN EVERY DAY'

Representing the IFJ, Bellanger said the following:

"We continue to witness the denial of press and expression freedom. Journalists suffer this pain every day, and this is unacceptable. It is imperative that the authorities release Furkan Karabay and that an investigation be launched immediately."
