Taking the floor for an off-agenda speech during the May 2025 session of the Üsküdar Municipal Council, Council Member Ekrem Baki announced that he had resigned from the AKP. In his speech, Baki shared the reasons for his departure from the party with the public.

According to the report by Engin Deniz İpek from Cumhuriyet, Baki stated that he "did not see any signs that the current situation would improve," and expressed that this situation was incompatible with his own understanding of law and politics.
