Saniye Caran, who was elected mayor from the CHP in the March 31, 2024 Local Administration Elections in the Korkuteli district of Antalya, has announced her resignation from the party.
In a statement on her social media account, Caran announced that she would continue her mayoral duties as an independent. Stating that she made the decision as a result of her "own free will" and "conscientious evaluation," Caran expressed that her priority is her responsibility toward Korkuteli and the people of the district.
By prioritizing the responsibility I bear toward our Korkuteli and our fellow citizens above all else, and as a result of my own free will and conscientious evaluation, I have decided to resign from the Republican People's Party (CHP), of which I was a member, and continue my mayoral duties as an independent.
In her statement, Caran thanked those she worked with under the CHP umbrella, noting that she would not forget the efforts made in the past and that she wanted to continue her path "without hurting anyone and without leaving any resentment behind."
Emphasizing that she sees the mayoralty not as a field where political divisions are magnified, but as a position of service where common values are protected, Caran stated, "Our common value is Korkuteli."
Following Caran's resignation, the administration of the Korkuteli Municipality will continue under an independent mayor.
