It has been reported that İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay, who joined the AKP, has gone on a five-day leave following the badge-pinning ceremony.
According to Sözcü TV reporter Gamze Elçi, Tugay announced his decision to take leave in a message sent to municipal staff in the morning hours.
It was stated that due to the resignation of Deputy Mayor Levent Yıldır, Municipal Council Member Mustafa Özuslu will serve as acting mayor in Tugay's absence.
In a statement made after joining the AKP, Tugay had said, "Under the leadership of our esteemed President, I have come among you to be a companion to those who have set their hearts on this path for a great and powerful Turkey and for a nation freed from polarization and division."
Also referencing Yunus Emre in his statement, Tugay had said, "I did not come for conflict, my work is for love; the home of the friend is the heart, I have come to build hearts."
