Decision week approaches: 2 critical scenarios for a new party on the Özgür Özel front

The management crisis in the CHP that began with a court ruling has brought discussions of a new party back to the center of the agenda. Following Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's call to Özgür Özel to "stay in the party," the decision within the Özel wing is expected to be clarified at an evaluation meeting to be held next week.

In a television broadcast he attended, Kılıçdaroğlu reiterated his allegations of irregularities regarding the party convention and argued that Özel had created a "parallel structure" within the party. Kılıçdaroğlu stated, "There cannot be a parallel structure within the party. The court's decision of absolute nullity is because money was involved. A parallel structure cannot exist. It is not right."

Addressing the claims of a new party, Kılıçdaroğlu questioned the justification for a split, saying, "Why are we splitting? I need a logical reason. If they are saying, 'We are splitting because Kılıçdaroğlu will weed out the thieves,' that is even more serious. Whoever splits the party is serving Erdoğan."

TWO SCENARIOS FOR A NEW PARTY

According to the report by Cumhuriyet, following an evaluation Özgür Özel held with his aides in Parliament the other day, it is stated that two separate roadmaps are being considered regarding a new party. According to the first scenario, the founding petition for the new party will be submitted next week with a founding committee of approximately 30 people; Özel and his team will not join the new party in the initial phase.

This formula aims to prevent disruptions in legislative activities. It is planned that Özel and the figures acting with him will join the new party in the later stages of the process.

In the other scenario, a mass transition by Özel and his team is on the agenda as soon as the founding petition is submitted. In party lobbies, it is stated that the prevailing view within the elected management favors this second option. In this case, the goal is for the new party to become the main opposition party.

The Özel wing is making assessments that do not find Kılıçdaroğlu's "stay in the party" call credible. Cited as reasons for this view are the deputies referred for expulsion, the figures whose immunity is requested to be lifted, the provincial administrations that were dismissed, and the party personnel who have been fired since the nullity ruling.

Aides argue that political space is not being left within the CHP not only for the Özel team but also for various figures who criticize the current management. For this reason, it is stated that the number of those who think the new party process should be started without delay is increasing.
