District Deputy Chair Beat a Painter with an Iron Rod and Threatened Him with a Gun

Sedat Polat, a married father of two living in the Haliliye district of Şanlıurfa, painted the village house belonging to Yeniden Refah Partisi Karaköprü District Deputy Chair Ahmet Enmek last year. The painting job cost 24,000 TL, but Polat had been unable to collect the money for a full nine months. Eventually losing his patience, Polat went to Enmek's workplace at an industrial estate to demand his payment.

BEATEN WITH AN IRON ROD, THREATENED WITH A GUN

According to a report by Sözcü, Enmek began assaulting painter Sedat Polat. With dozens of people present at the scene, Enmek beat Polat with an iron rod and a pistol in hand. After beating the painter severely, Enmek directed threats at Polat with his gun. The altercation ended when tradespeople at the industrial estate intervened. Sedat Polat immediately went to Şanlıurfa Balıklıgöl State Hospital, where he received a ten-day incapacity report, and then filed a police complaint at the local station after obtaining a medical assault report.

"THERE WAS A MISUNDERSTANDING, I GOT MY MONEY"

Sedat Polat described what he went through:

"We did the work and asked for the money — it hadn't been paid for nine months. In the end I went to his workplace at the industrial estate to claim what was owed to me. They beat me so hard; they were going to hit me in the face with the gun. The tradespeople stepped in and protected me. At least I got my money afterwards, but first I took a beating."

Polat went to the police station in response to the violence he suffered and filed a complaint against Enmek.

"THE GUN WAS UNLOADED — I JUST WANTED TO SCARE HIM"

Yeniden Refah Partisi Karaköprü District Deputy Chair Ahmet Enmek, in a statement to a SÖZCÜ reporter following the incident, said: "We had the painting done and couldn't agree on the payment. Then he came to my shop, caused a scene, kicked the windows and doors, and swore at us. My employees and I wanted to scare him. The gun was unloaded anyway — I didn't want to kill him, I only used it to frighten him. After the incident we paid him his money; there was a disagreement between us, but it wasn't something that needed to be blown out of proportion."
