Lobbying for conditional release for Selahattin Demirtaş: This possibility is gaining strength

A new lawsuit has been filed against former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş, who has been imprisoned for 9 years, amid expectations of his release following a ruling by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).

The lawsuit in question was filed on the grounds that Demirtaş insulted the President in his speeches in Mersin and Diyarbakır. This development has led to interpretations that Demirtaş may face "conditional release" in the coming period from both a political and legal perspective.

In his column, Coşkun reminded that Demirtaş will continue to be tried in a chain of cases on charges of "insulting the president," noting that with these lawsuits, a prison sentence of 1 year and 3 months to 7 years is being requested for Demirtaş.

Coşkun also stated that the filing of this lawsuit is a step that increases the possibility of Demirtaş's "conditional release" in the near future, saying, "The fact that this case has begun right before the likely news of his release shows that Demirtaş will face a conditional release both politically and legally."

DETAILS OF THE CASE IN MERSIN

The lawsuit filed against Demirtaş is based on his speeches in Mersin and Diyarbakır. In the hearing held at the Mersin 14th Criminal Court of First Instance, 4 separate cases were merged and began to be heard on the grounds that Demirtaş "insulted the president."

It is stated that this lawsuit strengthens the possibility of Demirtaş's "conditional release" politically and legally.

Following the ECHR's decision, which deemed Demirtaş's long-term detention a violation, there were great expectations in the public for his release.
