Kılıçdaroğlu's party congress plan revealed! Will he be a candidate?

Whether Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who was brought to the CHP Chairmanship following a decision of absolute nullity, will be a candidate at the party congress is being awaited with curiosity.

While the CHP is expected to head to a congress in September, a striking claim has been made regarding Kılıçdaroğlu.

According to a report by the pro-government Türkiye Gazetesi, Kılıçdaroğlu will not make any statement before the congress saying "I am a candidate" or "I am not a candidate." Despite this, he will be nominated for the chairmanship during the congress with signatures provided by delegates. The CHP bylaws require the written support of at least 5 percent of the total number of congress delegates to become a candidate for chairman. Considering the current number of delegates, this requirement corresponds to approximately 70 signatures.

KILIÇDAROĞLU'S POST-CONGRESS PLAN

It was reported that Kılıçdaroğlu's aides stated that the CHP leader plans to remain in the party's management not only during the congress period but also afterwards. In this context, Kılıçdaroğlu is expected to be influential in determining the CHP's parliamentary candidate lists for the general elections projected to be held in 2028.

It is stated that some figures within the party who oppose Kılıçdaroğlu becoming a candidate for chairman again have asked him to make an "I am not a candidate" statement. The Kılıçdaroğlu camp, however, believes that such a statement would further disrupt the existing balances within the party.

Arguing that if Kılıçdaroğlu were to say "I am stepping down," a division and a struggle for positions would begin within the party, his aides assessed that "It would become difficult to manage the party, and indiscipline would increase. For this reason, it would not be right to make an 'I am not a candidate' statement."
