Melih Gökçek refuses to hand over municipal residence keys! Application filed with the District Governor's Office

It has emerged that although the residential villa in Dikmen Valley belonging to the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) was vacated by former mayor Melih Gökçek, the keys were not handed over to the municipality. Despite a court ruling upheld by the Court of Cassation, Gökçek's stance has prompted the municipality to take action. The ABB has filed an official application with the District Governor's Office for the delivery of the keys.

Municipal officials stated that the necessary steps are being taken to implement the court's decision and that the process is continuing in accordance with regulations.

WHAT HAPPENED?

In 2017, during Melih Gökçek's tenure as mayor, four municipal residential villas were put up for sale. The tender was won by Gökçek's wife, Nevin Gökçek, and two lawyers. Gökçek continued to live in this residence even after leaving office. In 2018, the Gökçek family purchased these villas for 7 million 900 thousand TL. However, the new mayor, Mansur Yavaş, stated that these transactions were irregular and initiated legal proceedings.

The court ruled that the sale was unlawful and ordered the return of the properties to the ABB. The Court of Cassation upheld this decision, stating that the tender was contrary to the law.
