The Ministry of National Defense (MSB) evaluated the Libyan House of Representatives' ratification of the maritime jurisdiction memorandum signed with Turkey in 2019 as an "important development." Ministry sources announced that they are ready for a similar agreement with Egypt in the Eastern Mediterranean.
In assessments made following the MSB's weekly press briefing, it was emphasized that Turkey will continue its approach in the Eastern Mediterranean based on the principles of international law and equity. Ministry sources stated that the ratification in Libya is supportive of Turkey's theses in the region.
In this context, we once again emphasize that we are ready to sign an agreement on the Delimitation of Maritime Jurisdiction Areas with Egypt in line with mutual interests.
According to ministry sources, if Egypt were to sign such an agreement with Turkey, it is estimated that it would possess more than 15,000 square kilometers of maritime jurisdiction compared to a potential agreement it might make with Greece.
