Murat Emir responds to Istanbul Governor Davut Gül's 'yours' remark: 'Proof of your bias'

The debate that began between Istanbul Governor Davut Gül and the YENI Party regarding the election process in Üsküdar has continued with new statements. YENI Party Chairman Özgür Özel had criticized Gül's stance regarding a letter sent to the Municipal Council days before the election during his Üsküdar rally.

Özel stated that the letter in question initially included the phrase "parties without a group cannot enter," and that after the YENI Party formed a group, the decision was changed to "no one other than council members can enter."

Istanbul Governor Davut Gül, in responding to these criticisms, defended the decision as standard. The phrase used in Gül's statement, "the election where yours read the 'G' in Gültekin as 6 and the 'Z' in Ziya as 2," has become the focus of the debate.

The response to Gül came from YENI Party Group Deputy Chairman Murat Emir. In a post on his social media account, Emir stated that the governor's words deepened the debate over impartiality.

Mr. Governor, how does a public official who says "I am outside of political debates" know about "the G in Gültekin and the Z in Ziya"? Following such a subtle detail and trying to respond by distorting it is proof of your bias.

Emir also drew attention to the two different letters sent before the election, stating, "In your letter before the second election, it said 'those without a group cannot enter the municipality.' When the YENI Party formed a group, you sent a letter saying 'no one other than council members can enter.' While you were at it, you should have also explained why you sent two different letters four days apart."

YENI Party's Emir concluded his post with the words, "Just as you said, what matters is being the governor of the state."
