Özgür Özel calls for action on the fund crisis: Profits should be collected and distributed to victims

Özgür Özel, in a statement regarding the process discussed in the public eye as the "fund crisis," said that the investigation should be expanded to include the period from the date the fund was established. Speaking after the hearing of the October 10 Ankara Train Station Massacre case, Özel stated that everyone responsible for the crisis must be held accountable.

Reacting to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's statement from the previous day, in which he claimed the issue emerged in a "limited area of capital markets" and that there was no systemic risk to the Turkish economy, Özel argued that a large number of small investors had been victimized.

In his statement, Özel emphasized that a significant portion of the investors entered the market with small savings, claiming, "They robbed 455 thousand unique users, which will affect 2 million people." Describing the events as the "robbery, corruption, and fraud of the century," Özel stated that the matter is being closely monitored by his party's economic boards.

CALL TO MASAK AND THE MINISTRY OF FINANCE

Stating that duties fall upon the Ministry of Finance and MASAK, Özel noted that they had requested that those who conducted transactions during the closed period be reported to the prosecutor's office, and reported that there had been a positive development in this regard. Özel expressed that the investigation should not be limited only to the period after 2024.

Özel said, "It is necessary to look at it from 2021, when the fund was established, from the very first transaction. It is necessary not to keep anyone on the sidelines or keep anything hidden."

Reiterating his proposed solution, Özel argued that collections should be made from individuals within the AK Party who he alleged had made large profits from the fund in the past. Özel stated, "It is necessary to collect this from each of the individuals within the AK Party who earned those large sums of money from here in the past, along with their assets, and distribute it to the victims."

Erdoğan, in his previous statement, had said that necessary steps were being taken within the framework of capital market principles and the law, that the judiciary had launched a comprehensive investigation, and that those responsible would be held accountable before the law. Erdoğan had also stated that necessary measures, including legal and administrative regulations, would be taken to ensure that similar problems do not occur again.
