Özgür Özel issues sharp criticism of RTÜK's penalties against opposition channels
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel criticized RTÜK's penalties against opposition channels, stating that these steps aim to silence the opposition.
RTÜK's decision to suspend broadcasts for Halk TV and impose fines on Tele 1 and Sözcü TV has caused widespread repercussions in public opinion.
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel reacted to this situation, stating that RTÜK's decisions are intended to silence the opposition.
In a statement made while in Brussels, Özel said, "The penalty imposed on Halk TV is an effort to silence the opposition. We trust the administrative judicial process and believe that these unjust decisions will be overturned." He also criticized the arrest warrant issued for Halk TV owner Cafer Mahiroğlu and the stance taken by RTÜK.
AN EFFORT TO SILENCE THE OPPOSITION
Drawing attention to the date of June 30, Özel stated that this date was not intended to be a conclusion, but rather to create a process-oriented debate. "Such penalties are an attempt to divert the opposition's energy toward internal debates," said Özel, emphasizing that the opposition is fighting in unity.
Özel stated, "In Turkey, the Republican People's Party has become the leading party after many years. The AK Party has lost an election for the first time. This situation shows that the opposition is putting up a united fight despite the pressures."
EMPHASIS ON UNITY AND STRUGGLE
Özgür Özel stated that the opposition would not bow to pressure, saying, "They cannot intimidate us with judicial games and conspiracies. As republicans, democrats, and Atatürkists, we will stand tall together." Özel added that the opposition possesses moral and psychological superiority and that they will continue their struggle.
