The ruling party's Bahçelievler maneuver: Parliamentary majority shifts to AKP

In Istanbul's Bahçelievler district, 3 municipal council members elected from the Republican People's Party (CHP) have joined the AKP. With Cem Şafak, Barış Ural, and Levent Arısüt changing parties, the arithmetic of the district's Municipal Council has also changed.

During the "New Member and Council Member Participation Program" organized by the AKP Bahçelievler District Presidency at the Nurettin Topçu Cultural Center, the three council members who left the CHP and joined the AKP were presented with their party pins.

The program was attended by the Chairman of the TBMM Justice Commission and AKP İstanbul Deputy Cüneyt Yüksel, AKP İstanbul Provincial Chairman Abdullah Özdemir, Bahçelievler Mayor Hakan Bahadır, AKP Bahçelievler District Chairman Emrah Parlak, as well as district organization members, women's and youth branches, council members, neighborhood organizations, and new members.

Following the defection of the three individuals to the AKP, the number of CHP members in the Bahçelievler Municipal Council dropped from 25 to 22. The number of council members for the People's Alliance (Cumhur İttifakı) rose from 20 to 23.

With this new distribution, the majority in the Bahçelievler Municipal Council has passed to the People's Alliance.
