Zeydan Karalar makes first comments on the commission

Adana Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Zeydan Karalar, who was detained on July 5 as part of the corruption investigation into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, was arrested on July 8 and suspended from his post by the Ministry of Interior on the same day. Karalar, who is currently being held at the Marmara Prison in Silivri, claimed in a statement made through his lawyers that there were political motives behind his arrest.

Describing this corruption investigation as a "process to discredit the CHP," Karalar said, "I do not see a legal process." He noted that the investigation conducted into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, which is accused of corruption, is actually just a move aimed at weakening the CHP.

REQUEST FOR TRIAL WITHOUT ARREST

Reiterating his request to be tried without arrest and emphasizing that the trial process is not a search for justice, Karalar responded to the question, "How are you preparing for the upcoming legal process?" by saying, "I do not see a legal process," and stated that he believes the process is entirely a political game.

FIRST COMMENTS ON THE PARLIAMENTARY COMMISSION

Karalar also made evaluations regarding the National Solidarity, Brotherhood and Democracy Commission established in Parliament. Considering the tense environment the country is experiencing, he proposed a peaceful solution. Stating, "Everyone wants the guns to fall silent, for there to be peace, and for everyone living in our country to be honored to be a citizen of this country," Karalar indicated that the commission should work effectively in this direction.

Saying, "I hope this process concludes in a way that is satisfying for the commission," Karalar expressed that the commission offers an important opportunity for the peace of the country.
