Imprisoned Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu has issued a call to support journalism. Imamoglu's message was shared by the Presidential Candidate Office account.
In the post, Imamoglu argued that the public's right to receive information is being targeted, expressing his reaction by stating that television stations, social media accounts, news websites, and YouTube channels are being shut down.
“They have declared war on you, my people! The profiteers are usurping the public's right to receive information with their final move: a media heist. Television stations, social media accounts, news websites, and YouTube channels are being shut down!”
Imamoglu called on citizens to respond by purchasing newspapers. In his message, Imamoglu used the phrases, “Read, share, tell... Speak, encourage others to speak...” and urged people to follow and support independent journalists and news reporters.
