Journalist Kayhan Ayhan brought to court
In Istanbul, BirGün reporter Kayhan Ayhan was referred to the courthouse after being detained on allegations of 'spreading misleading information to the public.' It was stated that the investigation is related to his journalistic activities.
BirGün newspaper reporter Kayhan Ayhan, who was covering the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) trial, was detained following a police operation at his home during the night. Ayhan, who faces the accusation of "spreading misleading information to the public," spent the night in custody at the Vatan Police Headquarters.
After his procedures at the police station were completed, Kayhan Ayhan was referred to the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan around noon today. It was reported that the investigation concerns the news reports and social media posts Ayhan made regarding the İBB trial held at the Silivri Marmara Prison Complex.
Lawyers pointed out that all the questions directed at the journalist were about his journalistic activities and his reports from the courtroom. The fact that the investigation is being conducted by the Terror Crimes Investigation Bureau of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office instead of the Press Bureau stood out as a notable detail.
