5 features that set the iPhone Duo apart from other iPhones

Introduced as Apple's first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo stands out not only for its design language but also for new hardware and software features that transform the user experience. While it is stated that the device will go on sale starting at $2,000, the model differentiates itself from the classic iPhone family through its foldable body, dual-screen structure, under-display camera, and matte inner screen.

The iPhone Duo features an external screen for closed use and an internal screen that offers a larger workspace when opened. It is reported that the external screen provides approximately 90 percent of the screen area of the iPhone 18 Pro, while the internal screen provides 50 percent more viewing area compared to the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Thus, the device can be used as a standard phone when closed and in a form approaching a small tablet when opened.

A passport-like design was chosen for the foldable structure. Special transition animations are activated when moving applications from the external screen to the internal screen or vice versa. While Grade 5 titanium is used for the body, it is stated that a 3D printing method was preferred for the hinge cover. It is expressed that Apple aims to limit the screen crease as much as possible in this model, both in terms of visuals and tactile feel.

On the camera side, the iPhone Duo comes with a total of four cameras. There are 48 MP Fusion Ultra Wide and 48 MP Fusion Main cameras on the back. On the outside, there is a 12 MP Center Stage front camera that can keep the user in the frame during video calls and readjust the image when someone new enters the frame.

One of the most striking differences of the model is the FaceTime camera on the inner screen. Since the camera is placed under the screen, it becomes invisible when not active. Apple has not disclosed the resolution of this camera; however, the fact that it offers video calling and selfie capabilities on the inner screen without a camera hole stands out as one of the significant innovations that distinguish the Duo from other iPhone models.

Apple is also opting for a matte screen on an iPhone model for the first time in nearly 20 years. The matte finish is positioned to help reduce reflections in outdoor environments, as well as to make the crease and the under-display camera less noticeable. A similar approach has previously been used in products such as the iPad, MacBook, and Studio Display.

Regarding durability, it is stated that the device has an IP68 certification and is intended to offer protection against water, dust, and small particles close to that of high-end iPhone models. There is Ceramic Shield on the back surface, and Ceramic Shield 2, which is stated to offer three times higher scratch resistance than the previous generation, on the external screen. It is emphasized that the inner screen requires more delicate handling due to its foldable structure.
