Apple has refreshed its professional laptop family with the 14-inch MacBook Pro model featuring the M6 processor. While there are no radical changes to the design, the main innovation is the new-generation M6 chip produced with 2 nm architecture and hardware updates aimed at artificial intelligence workloads.
The new MacBook Pro features a 12-core CPU and a 12-core GPU. On the CPU side, it uses 2 super cores, 4 performance cores, and 6 efficiency cores. According to Apple, the M6 provides up to a 30 percent increase in graphics performance and up to a 25 percent increase in AI workloads compared to the M5.
One of the most notable changes on the AI side is in the Neural Engine unit. While the M5 model used a 16-core structure, the new model increases this to a total of 32 cores with a dual-system 16-core structure. Additional Neural Accelerators on the GPU also target higher performance for on-device AI features and local large language models.
DISPLAY, MEMORY, AND CONNECTIVITY FEATURES
The 14.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR Mini-LED display is retained. The panel offers a resolution of 3024 x 1964 pixels, a 120 Hz ProMotion dynamic refresh rate, and 1,600 nits of peak HDR brightness. For users who want to reduce glare and reflections, a nano-texture display coating is also among the options.
Memory options start at 16 GB and go up to 32 GB. Although the memory bandwidth has been increased from 153 GB/s to 170 GB/s, this increase only applies to configurations with 24 GB and 32 GB of memory. On the storage side, the starting capacity is set at 1 TB, while options extend up to 4 TB.
There are no major changes to the connection ports. The device includes 3 Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI, MagSafe 3, an SDXC card reader, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. For wireless communication, it transitions to Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 support with Apple's N1 chip.
The new model continues to use the 72.4 Wh capacity battery from the previous generation. Apple promises up to 24 hours of video playback and 16 hours of web browsing on a single charge. The 1.55 cm thick computer weighs 1.55 kg; color options were announced as Space Black and Silver.
