Real Madrid defeated Sevilla 1-0 at home with an 81st-minute goal from Luka Modric. Following the match, comments made by Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti regarding Arda Güler—who was preparing to enter the game but was sent back to the bench after Modric's goal—drew significant backlash on social media.
Real Madrid hosted Sevilla in the 26th week of LaLiga.
The Whites won the match 1-0 with a goal from Luka Modric in the 81st minute.
Arda Güler, who transferred to Real Madrid from Fenerbahçe this season and had been sidelined for a long time due to injuries, played the final 5 minutes of last week's match against Rayo Vallecano but did not receive any playing time in the Sevilla match.
Carlo Ancelotti had Arda Güler sit back down on the bench after Modric's goal, despite the player preparing to enter the game toward the final minutes of the match.
In the post-match press conference, a journalist asked Ancelotti why he did not bring Arda Güler into the game. Responding to the journalist's question, Carlo Ancelotti stated, "I had a plan for Arda before Modric's goal. However, I changed my mind after the goal. Arda understands this situation very well; if he doesn't understand, he won't become anything anyway."
Arda Güler, who celebrated his 19th birthday, was unable to take the field on his birthday, and Ancelotti's remarks about him have caused a stir.
