Speaking at the Fenerbahçe High Council meeting, President Aziz Yıldırım made headlines with his statements regarding his choice of head coach and his future at the club. With the Galatasaray-Fenerbahçe derby approaching, Yıldırım responded to criticisms regarding the appointment of İsmail Kartal and the decision to move away from the Aykut Kocaman option.
Arguing that there were objections to the name Aykut Kocaman during the election process, Yıldırım stated that the choice of İsmail Kartal was shaped in this atmosphere. President Yıldırım said, "İsmail Kartal was not in my plans. Didn't you all come out and say things at every meeting I went to so that I wouldn't bring in Aykut Kocaman! Didn't you say 'Let it not be him'? Didn't you say 'Bring in İsmail Kartal'! What do you want?"
Stating that İsmail Kartal should be supported until the end of the season, Yıldırım said, "May will come, if he is unsuccessful, he cannot come again; just as I will not come, he will not come either. Just be patient until May!"
In the meeting, Yıldırım also made evaluations regarding the club's membership structure and the participation rate in the High Council, complaining about the low turnout. He emphasized that the Council is an important platform for discussing the club's problems and informing the members.
Yıldırım also gave a striking message regarding his future at the club. Saying, "I will not come to the council again. I am not here after May. I will not come inside the club again," Yıldırım called on the members to "Take care of your club."
