Izmir representative declares bankruptcy: Withdrawn from the league
Izmir representative Menemen FK has announced its decision to withdraw from the league ahead of the new season, citing economic difficulties and a lack of support.
Menemen FK, one of the teams in the TFF 2nd League, has announced its decision to withdraw from the league ahead of the 2026-2027 season. The Izmir representative informed the public of its decision through an announcement on the club's official social media account.
In the statement signed by Club President Bilgin Tokul, the emphasis was placed on economic hardships as well as being "left alone in a moral sense." Tokul stated that despite efforts to seek support and find solutions, the conditions necessary for the club to survive could not be met.
The statement expressed that the greatest damage from this decision would not be to the administrators or the players, but to Menemen itself. The club highlighted the significance of the process for the district with the words, "The children of Menemen, the youth who put in effort for this badge, our fans who grew up in the stands, and the common value of our district."
Menemen FK had competed in the leagues as the successor to Menemenspor, which was founded in 1942, competed in the 3rd League during the 1984-1987 and 1990-1991 periods, in the 2nd League between 1987-1990, and closed in 1992.
In its statement, the club assessed that the decision to withdraw from the league would be remembered not only as a sporting development but as "a painful memory of the failure to protect a city's common value."
