Transfer development at Galatasaray: Target is Barcelona star
Looking to strengthen its squad during the January transfer window, Galatasaray has set its sights on a star midfielder from Barcelona. According to reports, the yellow-reds are interested in the Turkish-German player İlkay Gündoğan.
It has been claimed that Galatasaray, looking to bolster its midfield during the winter transfer window, has added the Turkish-German midfielder İlkay Gündoğan, who plays for Barcelona, to its agenda.
Galatasaray currently has Tanguy Ndombele, Kerem Demirbay, and Sergio Oliveira in the number 8 position. It is stated that the management wants to strengthen the squad to ensure the team can compete both in Europe and in the league.
According to a report by TRT Spor, information was shared that the yellow-red team has turned its attention to İlkay Gündoğan, who plays for Barcelona, due to his status as a domestic player.
The management, having met with İlkay and his agent before the Bayern Munich match, reportedly received a positive response. Galatasaray is expected to contact the Spanish club in the coming days. It was noted that the 33-year-old footballer has a contract with Barcelona that runs until June 2025.
Having previously played for Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City, İlkay Gündoğan transferred to the La Liga side Barcelona at the beginning of the season.
This season, İlkay has contributed 1 goal and 5 assists in 17 matches.
"A VERY SPECIAL 90 MINUTES"
In addition to the transfer rumors, Turkish-German player İlkay Gündoğan said that the match they will play against Turkey will be a very special 90 minutes for him.
In an interview with AA, Gündoğan said the following about the Germany vs. Turkey match to be played on Saturday:
"WE WANT TO WIN THE MATCH"
"It will be a special match for me. Playing against Turkey for the first time will perhaps be a bit strange. After all, it is my homeland, the homeland where my family is from. Of course, I have a great bond with Turkey and always will. I try to go at least once every year. I love spending my holidays in Turkey. I also have many friends there. Cenk Tosun is unfortunately injured right now, he is a friend I see very often. There are some players I know in the squad, such as Çağlar Söyüncü and Hakan Çalhanoğlu. Ultimately, because the opponent is Turkey, it will be a very special match for me. I became a professional at 18-19 years old, and I have approached every match with that professionalism. Both sides will want to put their best performance on the pitch. I think the atmosphere in the stadium will also be very beautiful. It will be a good match. As a team, we want to put on a good performance and win the match."
