Button pressed for Turkey's third sea-fill airport: 100 million tons of fill to be used

Construction site setup has begun for the infrastructure works of the Trabzon New Airport Project. Within the scope of the project, which is planned to be Turkey's third airport to be built on the sea, 100 million tons of fill will be placed into the sea.

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu stated that the existing Trabzon Airport's single runway, which is 2,640 meters long, and its facilities are insufficient to meet the increasing passenger and cargo traffic. Uraloğlu said that a new airport with higher capacity, modern, and in accordance with international standards will be brought to the city.

To protect the fill area to be created for the project's infrastructure from sea effects, a 6,000-meter-long protective breakwater will be built. This infrastructure will be used for the creation of the new runway, taxiway, and apron areas.

In the new airport, a runway 3,000 meters long and 45 meters wide is planned. A taxiway of the same length and width will be built parallel to the runway. In addition, an apron 1,370 meters long and 155 meters wide, along with a safety apron 400 meters long and 120 meters wide, will be implemented.

Uraloğlu announced that the new terminal building will have an annual capacity of 10 million passengers and will be 110,000 square meters in size. Within the scope of the project, a total of 65,000 square meters of technical blocks, an air traffic control tower, and support buildings will also be constructed.

Planned as the third airport to be built on the sea after the Ordu-Giresun and Rize-Artvin airports, the Trabzon New Airport aims to provide a solution to the city's long-term air transportation needs.
