He opened a stand at 14, earned 90 thousand liras a month! 'I cover my weekly expenses in 1 day'

In the Serdivan district of Sakarya, 14-year-old Buğra Koç and his 13-year-old friend Ali Kemal Temel are spending their summer vacation working. While Koç continues the lemonade sales he started two years ago, Temel sells water alongside his friend.

Opening a stand in one of Serdivan's busy spots, Koç stated that he earns up to 3 thousand liras a day by working about 6 hours a day.

"I COVER MY WEEKLY EXPENSES IN ONE DAY"

Stating that he started selling lemonade during his summer vacation two years ago, Buğra Koç explained his sales prices and earnings:

"Two years ago, I decided to sell lemonade instead of sitting idle during summer vacation. It turned out to be a very good idea. I've been doing it for two years. My medium-sized cups are 70 liras, and my large-sized cups are 80 liras. My daily earnings exceed 3 thousand liras. I sold lemonade for 33 days this summer vacation. Today is my 33rd day. On my 14th day, I bought myself a smartphone. Since that day, I started saving money."

Stating that the weekly cost of the materials they use to make lemonade reaches approximately 3 thousand liras, Koç continued:

"We buy lemons weekly from the market or the bazaar. We also buy the cups. The weekly lemons cost 2 thousand liras. Including the cups, it comes to 3 thousand liras. I cover this 3 thousand liras in one day. There are exactly 10 liters of lemonade here. My mother also makes backup lemonade. As it runs out here, I refill it, but it still runs out. I work for a total of 6 hours. I open around 12:00 at noon and close at 18:00 in the evening. I earn 3 thousand liras a day. It reaches 90 thousand liras a month. My earnings are three times the minimum wage."

"I WANT TO OPEN A LEMONADE CAFE IN THE FUTURE"

Koç said that he is entering the 9th grade and plans to open a business based on lemonade sales after completing his education.

"When I started selling two years ago, my family and friends were proud. People I don't know also support me. Most of the people who come by chat. Those who pull up in cars, those who come to the park, pedestrians, motorcycle couriers, and minibuses come and buy. They chat. They remember their own childhoods. They say, 'We used to sell water and sweets at traffic lights, you have done a very beautiful thing, you have entered into trade, good for you.' We are happy when they say these things."

Koç explained his future plan as follows:

"I am now entering the 9th grade. Hopefully, after I finish school, I want to continue in trade. I have a plan to open a lemonade cafe after I finish school. If it works out, I will open it. Instead of playing with tablets and phones at home and being bad examples here and there, my peers should enter into trade like us."

"WE STARTED SELLING SIDE BY SIDE AFTER SEEING EACH OTHER"

13-year-old Ali Kemal Temel, who started selling water at the same spot after Koç, stated that he earns approximately one thousand liras a day.

Temel stated that he started selling water after seeing his friend selling lemonade, and said the following:

"My friend was curious about entering trade, and so was I. He started selling lemonade, and I started selling water. We started selling side by side after seeing each other. My family doesn't have any problems with it. On the contrary, they help. When he leaves, I look after his stand, and when I leave, he looks after my stand. We help each other, we have no problems."

Stating that his earnings change according to the daily sales volume, Temel said, "It changes depending on how much water I sell, but I get one thousand liras a day. I sell them for 10 liras each. I bought myself a new tablet a week ago. Now, by saving more money, I want to buy an electric bicycle towards the end of the summer vacation."
