The Saudi-led Arab Coalition announced that the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen have carried out a new missile attack targeting the southern regions of Saudi Arabia.
In a statement from the coalition, it was reported that 10 ballistic missiles launched by the Houthis were detected and destroyed in mid-air by air defense systems. No further details were shared regarding the regions targeted by the attack.
It had previously been stated that a cruise missile launched by the Houthis on the same day toward the city of Khamis Mushait in southern Saudi Arabia was also intercepted and destroyed in mid-air.
Yemen has been dragged into a civil war following the Houthis' seizure of control in the capital, Sanaa, and several provinces in September 2014. The Saudi-led Arab Coalition has been supporting the internationally recognized Yemeni government since March 2015.
While clashes between government forces and the Houthis have intensified in Yemen recently, the Houthis continue to target Saudi Arabia with ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.
