Court shock for Trump

The critical decision, reached by the U.S. Supreme Court in a 5-4 vote, is seen as a significant step that could hinder Trump's efforts to reshape the federal administration.

In its ruling, the court, which has a conservative majority, rejected the request to halt foreign aid previously approved by Congress, while noting that the Trump administration could continue to litigate the matter in lower courts.

The decision did not include a statement regarding when the currently frozen foreign aid should be released.

U.S. President Trump had suspended billions of dollars in foreign aid from the State Department and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) after taking office on January 20.

Following this, several non-governmental organizations that require these funds for global health and other programs filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration.

The groups in question argued that the Trump administration had usurped Congress's authority to control government spending and violated federal laws that determine how agencies make decisions.
