The death toll from the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck off the coast of Indonesia's Flores Island on August 15 has worsened. The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) announced that the number of people who lost their lives in the earthquake has risen to 100.

According to the statement, more than 1,600 people were injured in the earthquake, which affected the eastern part of the country. It was reported that search and rescue and relief efforts are continuing on the 10th day of the earthquake.

More than 73 thousand homes were damaged due to the earthquake that shook the East Nusa Tenggara province. It was stated that approximately 180 thousand people have been evacuated from the region.

The earthquake has become one of the deadliest earthquakes recorded in Indonesia since the 5.6 magnitude tremor in West Java in 2022, which claimed the lives of hundreds of people.
