Entrance to the Netherlands' largest museum, the Rijksmuseum, blocked: New protest by climate activists

In the Netherlands, dozens of protesters gathered under the organization of the environmental group 'Extinction Rebellion' and blocked the museum's entrance by chaining themselves to the Rijksmuseum's iron fences. Approximately 60 protesters wearing yellow jumpsuits are demanding that the Rijksmuseum sever its ties with its sponsor, the bank ING. ING is accused of funding companies that contribute to the climate crisis.

The protesters, who chained themselves to the entrance of the country's largest museum, are preventing visitors from entering.

Speaking to an AA reporter, the protesters stated, stated that they would block the museum's entrance until the partnership with the bank, which they claim finances the fossil fuel industry, is terminated.

One of the protesters said, 'We are carrying out this action in front of the Rijksmuseum today. We want the Rijksmuseum to cut its ties with ING. By financing the fossil fuel industry, ING is implementing a flawed climate policy.' they said.

The protesters, who entered a crane cabin and frequently made announcements to museum visitors via megaphone, 'We want the Rijksmuseum to say 'No' to ING Bank' they chanted.

Some visitors, unable to enter the museum, spoke with the protesters and criticized the way the demonstration was conducted.

Numerous police officers waiting around the museum for the demonstration to end did not intervene.
