As the November 3 midterm elections continue in the US, the first voter polls released have pointed to a negative picture for President Donald Trump. According to preliminary data from CNN, NBC News, and the Associated Press (AP), the economy, the cost of living, and dissatisfaction with the Trump administration have emerged as the top issues on voters' agendas.
According to CNN's voter poll, approximately 20 percent of those who voted for Trump in the 2024 presidential election stated that they do not approve of the president's job performance today. Nationwide, approximately 60 percent of voters expressed that they are dissatisfied with Trump's performance.
In NBC News' exit poll, the approval rating for Trump's job performance remained at 38 percent. This rate was measured at 45 percent during the 2018 midterm elections in Trump's first presidential term.
Perceptions regarding the economy also yielded noteworthy results for the administration. According to the initial polls, 75 percent of voters believe the economy is in bad shape. This issue also stood out as one of the determining factors in voting motivations.
Forty-three percent of voters participating in the NBC News poll said that one of the reasons for casting their vote was to oppose Trump. In the CNN survey, the proportion of those who stated they voted to support Trump in the House of Representatives elections remained below one-fifth.
The balance of power in the House of Representatives and the Senate is being closely watched in the midterm elections. If the majority in Congress changes, the political landscape in Washington could be reshaped for the remainder of Trump's term.
