The sound of approximately 20-30 gunshots of unknown origin, which was confirmed by the Secret Service's social media account and reflected in the broadcasts of some reporters live-streaming from inside the White House, prompted officials to take action.
Security units reported that the gunshots in question originated from the corner of 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, located in an area near the White House.
The Secret Service, which gathered members of the press in the garden into the briefing room, increased security measures around the White House.
