According to information in the local press, the attack took place in front of a fast-food restaurant. It was reported that Gastelum was filming with two friends, and the group was wearing bright orange jackets and carrying backpacks used by food delivery couriers.
According to eyewitness accounts, a motorcycle with two people on it approached the group. It was reported that the person on the back of the motorcycle opened fire on Gastelum from close range with a gun, and the content creator, who was seriously injured, lost his life at the scene.
A security official from Sinaloa state confirmed Gastelum's death and announced that a large-scale security operation had been launched following the attack.
The Mexican Security Cabinet announced in a statement on the social media platform X that some of Gastelum's posts, which are considered to potentially be linked to criminal organizations, are being examined. The statement noted that security camera footage and other evidence are being analyzed, and efforts to apprehend the perpetrators are ongoing.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum also said at a press conference held in the morning that the murder is being investigated in all its aspects. Sheinbaum emphasized that the perpetrators of the attack and any instigators must be brought to justice.
The incident took place in Culiacan, where violence has recently increased in the shadow of the ongoing struggle for dominance between rival groups of the Sinaloa Cartel. Authorities stated that whether the attack is cartel-linked is also being evaluated as part of the investigation.
