Immigrant protests grow in Los Angeles: Thousands on the streets

Rising reactions against federal immigration operations in Los Angeles have turned into mass protests. Despite objections from California Governor Gavin Newsom, U.S. President Donald Trump has sent 2,000 National Guard troops to the region under federal authority.

Police and National Guard units have attempted to disperse protesters using tear gas, flash-bang grenades, and rubber bullets.

The protests have spread from central points of the city to the area around the Federal Detention Center and onto the 101 Freeway. Vehicles have been set on fire, and some individuals have been arrested. A reporter was injured by a security force projectile casing while reporting away from the crowd of demonstrators.
