India's boycott grows: 30,000 jewelers join in!

In India, some jewelers have decided to remove Turkish-origin jewelry from sale due to Turkey's military product sales to Pakistan.

According to a report by Indian Times, many jewelers in Kolkata have announced that they will no longer sell or display jewelry imported from Turkey.

'OUR NATIONAL PRIDE IS MORE VALUABLE THAN FOREIGN EARNINGS'

Jewelry Trade Council member Rupak Saha stated that while Turkish jewelry was imported via Mumbai for design variety, the stance taken against these products in the sector has received widespread support. The Bengal-based Swarna Shilpa Bachao Committee, representing approximately 30,000 jewelers, demanded a boycott of all Turkish-origin jewelry and products. The committee stated, "Our national pride is more valuable than foreign earnings."

Previously, jewelers in Lucknow had also taken a similar boycott decision. The All India Gem and Jewellery Domestic Council had called for the cessation of trade in jewelry originating from Turkey and Azerbaijan.

Shubadip Roy from Bengal Jewellery stated that they no longer sell or display Turkish jewelry in their stores. Another jeweler, Anargha Uttiyo Chowdhury, noted that Indian craftsmen could imitate Turkish designs in a short time, saying, "There is demand for Turkish designs, but our craftsmen can also produce work of similar quality."
