Iraqi Border Guard Commander: Situation on Syrian border is normal, no threat
Iraqi Border Guard Commander Al-Saidi announced that the activity on the Syrian border is within their knowledge and that there is no threat.
Iraqi Border Guard Commander Mohammed Abdul-Wahab al-Saidi made a statement regarding the security situation on the Iraq-Syria border. Al-Saidi reported that the "situation is normal" along the border line between the two countries.
Speaking to the official Iraqi news agency INA, al-Saidi said that the activity carried out to ensure border security on the Syrian side is within the knowledge of Iraqi authorities.
Emphasizing that there is no threat along the border line, al-Saidi stated that the movements of Syrian forces are in coordination with the Iraqi side.
There had previously been reports in regional media that the Syrian army had "gone on alert" at the Iraqi border. The Iraqi commander's statement was recorded as the official assessment regarding the current situation at the border following these reports.
