Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi made notable remarks regarding the management of the Strait of Hormuz. According to Iran's official news agency IRNA, Araghchi stated in his speech at the opening of the Martyr Kamal Kharrazi Documentation and Museum Center in the capital, Tehran, that recent wars in the region have altered security balances.
Describing the developments of the last year and a half as a "turning point," Araghchi indicated that new conditions are on the agenda for the Strait of Hormuz. Araghchi stated, "Nothing will ever be the same again; the management of the Strait of Hormuz will not be as it was. The transit routes in the Strait, the management model, and the new conditions will be reconsidered within the framework of consultations with Oman. There are issues we are negotiating, and these will continue."
Araghchi argued that it is a correct approach for regional countries to strive to ensure their own security by developing cooperation. The Iranian minister, who claimed that the presence of foreign powers such as the US in the region does not produce security, said that the effects of developments in any part of the region do not remain limited to the local level but also reflect on other areas.
Touching upon the indirect talks held with the US, Araghchi conveyed that they have expressed in these contacts that the war must end on all fronts. Stating that the possibility of new wars in the region has come to the agenda again, Araghchi expressed that he is thinking about "the post-war period, not the war itself."
Stating that a possible new attack on Iran would not produce a different result from previous wars, Araghchi emphasized that they have relations with all countries in the Persian Gulf. Araghchi noted that they are seeking a common approach and consensus regarding a new security structure in the region, stating that this is the only way to emerge from crises and achieve stability and peace.
