As the voting process for the U.S. Congressional midterm elections continues, the fact that three NASA astronauts serving on the International Space Station cast their votes has drawn attention on social media.

NASA astronaut Anil Menon explained in a video he shared on his social media account that the sleeping quarters on the station were used as a voting booth. Menon stated that he filled out his electronic ballot on his computer and sent his vote to Harris County in Texas.

Menon's crewmates Jessica Watkins and Luke Delaney also cast their votes later. Harris County is home to NASA's Johnson Space Center and the Mission Control Center.

U.S. astronauts have been able to vote during space missions since 1997. Thanks to this practice, astronauts in orbit can participate in elections via electronic methods.
