Pakistan Prime Minister Sharif: We have achieved a historic success
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that they achieved a "historic success" against India during the tensions that began between New Delhi and Islamabad following India's missile attack on May 7.
According to reports in the Pakistani press, Sharif addressed the nation following the reaching of a ceasefire agreement and made statements regarding the days-long tension between the two countries.
Thanking the security forces for the "historic success" his country achieved in the latest operation they conducted against India, Sharif stated, "This is a victory of our principles and our respect. This is a victory not only for the armed forces but for the entire nation."
Stating that they decided to retaliate following India's attacks on military facilities and water resources, Sharif said, "We decided to respond to the enemy in a language they understand very well. We clearly stated that the discussions to be held at the table would now take place on the battlefield."
THANKS TO COUNTRIES INCLUDING TURKEY
Sharif also thanked the US, China, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, the UK, and the United Nations for their constructive roles.
"OUR FAITH IS FULL"
Sharif said that India used the incident in the Pahalgam region as a "pretext" to launch an "unjust war" against Pakistan, adding that his country had proposed an impartial and independent investigation into the matter.
Stating that French-made Rafale aircraft belonging to India were targeted and shot down by the Pakistan Air Force, Sharif said that his country's security forces and jets "silenced" the Indian army's towers "within a few hours" and that "history will always remember this."
Sharif also stated that the enemy's military depots, ammunition storage sites, and air bases were turned into ruins.
Noting that Pakistan responded positively to the ceasefire "for regional peace and the lives of tens of millions of its citizens," Sharif said, "We have full faith that the path of peaceful negotiation will be adopted for the resolution of all issues, including the sharing of water resources and Jammu and Kashmir, in accordance with the principles of justice."
