Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met in Moscow. The meeting covered regional developments, bilateral relations, and economic cooperation.
According to a statement from the Kremlin, the contact took place within the framework of the 8th Summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF). Speaking during the part of the meeting open to the press, Putin stated that they had evaluated the situation in the region during their one-on-one meeting with Pezeshkian.
We are neighbors, we have many common interests, and we are trying to realize them. We hope that the situation will develop in a positive direction.
While Putin expressed that the situation in the region is "worrying," he emphasized that they are in close cooperation with Iran. The Russian leader also said that Moscow is fulfilling its obligations in joint projects with Iran.

EMPHASIS ON TRADE AND NUCLEAR POWER PLANT
Touching upon the economic relations between the two countries, Putin announced that the trade volume between Russia and Iran increased by 10.4 percent in the first 8 months of the year. Putin also noted that the construction of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant is ongoing.
Stating that cultural and humanitarian relations are also developing, Putin reported that the number of Iranian students studying at Russian universities is approaching 10 thousand.
Iranian President Pezeshkian thanked Putin for Russia's support to his country in the political and economic fields. Criticizing the US policies in the region, Pezeshkian argued that Washington's steps have made the need for a multipolar world order more visible.
We have the capacity to solve all our problems and regional issues without the US. One should not rely on American aid in the region, especially by countries in our region that believe in it.
Pezeshkian stated that cooperation with Russia could be developed in the fields of science, economy, culture, humanitarian relations, and security. The Iranian leader also conveyed that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had provided information about developments in relations during his recent visit to Tehran.
