Russia decides to expel British diplomat
Russia has decided to expel British diplomat Edward Pryor Wilkes, whom it accuses of espionage.
Russia has announced that it will expel another British diplomat. In a statement made by the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), it was stated that Edward Pryor Wilkes, who served as a second secretary at the Moscow embassy, provided false information while entering the country.
The statement, which alleges that Wilkes was working for British intelligence under diplomatic cover, noted that the diplomat provided intelligence information that threatened the security of the Russian Federation and engaged in subversive activities.
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova also stated in her announcement that a decision had been made to revoke Wilkes's accreditation and that he must leave the country within 2 weeks. Zakharova stated that the British ambassador had been informed about the matter.
There has been no statement from the British Foreign Office regarding the issue yet.
Russia had decided to expel 6 British diplomats in September on charges of espionage. The UK had denied Russia's allegations.
