It has been alleged that the Donald Trump administration in the US is considering the option of using sea routes to deport irregular immigrants in the country. Two officials who spoke to the New York Times said the administration is working on different methods for mass deportation operations.

According to the claims, options under consideration include the use of Navy training ships and ferries. The officials stated that the discussions are still in the preliminary stage.

PLAN IS STILL IN PRELIMINARY STAGE

The report stated that one of the vessels mentioned within the scope of the plan is the Golden Bear Training Ship, which is located in California and used by the Maritime Academy. A person who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the plan also claimed that US Department of Defense officials have contacted some companies regarding ships that could be used in the region.

It is noted that the sea deportation option could be on the agenda for voyages to countries such as El Salvador, Honduras, and Venezuela. However, it was stated that these journeys could take days and cost millions of dollars.

It is stated that the plan contains uncertainties regarding cost, security, and detention conditions.

Among the most significant questions regarding the potential voyages are the need for security personnel, how immigrants would be held during the journey, and how sleeping arrangements on the ships would be made. No information has been shared regarding an official and final decision being made on the option in question.
