Trump: Agreement with Iran to be signed in Pakistan today

US President Donald Trump made contradictory statements to the US press regarding Iran. Despite reports that the Iranian side would not attend the talks in Pakistan, Trump rejected the claim that Iran would not participate in the peace talks, stating, "The agreement with Iran will be signed in Pakistan today."

US President Trump said he is willing to meet with high-level Iranian officials if progress is made in the talks. Signaling that he is ready for a striking diplomatic step such as meeting directly with Iranian leaders if the opportunity arises, Trump said, "We need to have the talks. At this point, I assume no one is playing games. It is not a problem for me to meet with them. If they want to meet, we have very capable people. I see no harm in meeting with them."

Confirming that Vice President James David Vance, Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff, and his son-in-law Jared Kushner have set off for Pakistan's capital, Islamabad, for the talks, Trump said, "They are on their way right now. They will be there overnight."

Stating that there is a single non-negotiable demand at the center of the negotiations, which is that Iran must completely abandon its pursuit of nuclear weapons, Trump said, "Get rid of your nuclear weapons. It is that simple. There will be no nuclear weapons."

Adding that Iran has development potential if it complies with this condition, Trump avoided clearly stating what would happen if Iran rejects this condition or if the talks collapse. Trump said the second round of negotiations with Iran would take place "tomorrow evening."

In a post on his social media account, Trump also stated, "Israel did not convince me to go to war against Iran," noting that the reason for launching attacks against Iran was the October 7 events and his lifelong held view that Iran can never possess nuclear weapons. Criticizing the press, Trump said, "I watch and read the fake news reporters and polls with great astonishment. 90 percent of what they say consists of lies and fabricated stories, and the polls are as irregular as the 2020 Presidential Election. Just like the results in Venezuela, which the media does not like to talk about much, the results in Iran will be incredible. If Iran's new leaders are smart, this country can have a wonderful and prosperous future."
