Trump's warning to Iraq on al-Maliki: We will not help if he is elected
US President Donald Trump reacted to the nomination of former Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Kamil al-Maliki for a new term, stating, "If he is elected, the US will no longer help Iraq."
US President Donald Trump has reacted to the nomination of former Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Kamil al-Maliki for a new term as prime minister.
Threatening Iraq over al-Maliki's candidacy, Trump said, "I hear that Iraq could make a very bad choice by re-electing Nouri Kamil al-Maliki as prime minister. When al-Maliki was last in power, the country was dragged into poverty and total chaos.
This must not be allowed to happen again. Because of his crazy policies and ideologies, if he is elected, the US will no longer help Iraq, and if we do not help, Iraq will have zero chance of success, prosperity, or freedom."
The Coordination Framework, consisting of leaders of Shiite parties that won the general elections held in Iraq on November 11, 2025, had announced former Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki as their candidate for prime minister as the largest bloc in parliament.
