Passenger plane crashes in India! Hundreds in danger

An Air India passenger plane has crashed at the airport in the city of Ahmedabad in western India. While no information on deaths or injuries has been shared yet, it was reported that there were 242 people on board the aircraft.

The plane, which was heading to Birmingham, England, crashed while taking off, according to local television channels.

It was reported that thick black smoke was rising into the sky from the wreckage of the plane.

Dense smoke can be seen from Dharpur, near the Meghaninagar area where the accident occurred. It was stated that the plane was heading to England.

According to Flightradar, the last signal from Air India flight AI171, which was traveling from Ahmedabad to London, was received at 08:08:51 (UTC), just a few seconds after takeoff. It was announced that the crashed plane was a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner.

MARKETED AS 'THE WORLD'S BEST PLANE'

It has emerged that the Boeing 787 that crashed in India had survived two serious accidents in the first 1-2 weeks of its post-delivery flight after production and had its flights banned by the Federal Aviation Administration.

STATEMENT RELEASED

In a statement made by Air India, it was said, "Flight AI171, operating the Ahmedabad-London Gatwick route, was involved in an accident today. We are currently determining the details and will share further updates as soon as possible."

The Indian Minister of Aviation said that "rescue teams have been mobilized" and that they are "on high alert." Videos shared on social media show a large gray cloud of smoke visible from a residential area.

Indian Minister of Civil Aviation Ram Mohan Naidu stated in a statement after the accident that he was "in shock and grief."

Naidu said, "I am personally monitoring the situation. Rescue and medical aid teams have been dispatched to the region. Our prayers are with everyone on board."

MADE A MAYDAY CALL AFTER TAKEOFF

The plane made a "MAYDAY" call immediately after takeoff. However, communication with the tower was lost after the call. Eyewitnesses stated that thick black smoke was rising around the airport. The plane, which took off from Runway 23 during departure, crashed into an open area around the airport.

INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) of India announced that it has launched a technical and judicial investigation into the incident. Although the cause of the plane's crash has not yet been announced, flight records and tower communications are being examined in detail.

NO SURVIVORS

Officials noted that it is believed there are no survivors among the 242 people on the crashed passenger plane.

Officials also stated that it is estimated there may be casualties in the residential area where the plane crashed.

According to the passenger list, there were 217 adults, 11 children, and 2 infants on the plane.

Air India announced that 169 of the passengers were Indian citizens, 53 were British, 7 were Portuguese, and 1 was Canadian.

STATEMENT FROM MODI

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on his X (Twitter) account, "We are deeply shaken by the tragedy in Ahmedabad. Words are insufficient. Our prayers are with the victims."

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that the images regarding the accident were "devastating" and that he was following the developments closely. Buckingham Palace also announced that King Charles had been informed.

AIRPORT CLOSED TO FLIGHTS

Ahmedabad Airport suspended all flight operations following the accident. Gautam Adani, chairman of the Adani Group, which operates the airport, said, "We are deeply shaken by the tragedy involving Air India flight AI-171. We are supporting the families in coordination with all institutions on the ground."

In a statement from Air India, it was said, "The injured have been transferred to the nearest hospitals. We will continue to share details."
