The North Korean administration has released new footage following the spread of claims that leader Kim Jong-un had passed away after suffering a brain hemorrhage. According to North Korean state media, Kim visited a clothing and footwear exhibition.
In the footage released by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Kim Jong-un was seen examining shoes at the exhibition. However, the date the footage was filmed has not been verified by independent sources.
The claims were brought to the agenda by a social media post from Wanjun Xie, the chairman of the China Democracy Party, who lives in the US and is banned from entering China. Xie alleged that Kim was taken to China after his health condition worsened and that he passed away despite medical interventions.
Xie also claimed that Kim's body was secretly brought back to North Korea and that the news of his death was being concealed by officials. The same post also alleged that Kim Jong-un's sister, Kim Yo Jong, had taken over the administration. No medical documents or independent evidence supporting these claims have been made public.
Xie's posts also alleged that loudspeaker broadcasts toward South Korea had been restarted, 201 warning shots had been fired, and that North Korea was considering developing its tactical strike capabilities. Statements claiming that China had sent 9 thousand troops to Pyongyang to ensure stability in North Korea have also not been verified by independent sources.
Similar rumors of death regarding Kim Jong-un have surfaced before. In 2020, it was claimed that the North Korean leader had died after he was not seen in public for a long time, but Kim was later filmed at a factory opening.
