Electric vehicle owners in Turkey rush to charge at these hours: The peak hour has been identified

The increase in the use of electric vehicles in Turkey has also been reflected in electricity consumption in the charging service market. In the August 2026 period, a total of 97 thousand 469 MWh of electricity was consumed at stations operated by charging network operators across the country.

During the same period, 3 million 527 thousand 70 transactions were performed at charging stations. While the average electricity consumption per charge was calculated as 27.63 kWh, the total charging time reached 3 million 650 thousand 668 hours.

According to hourly data, the highest consumption in electric vehicle charging was observed between 16:00 and 17:00. In this interval, 6 thousand 496 MWh of electricity was used. Consumption of 6 thousand 487 MWh was recorded between 17:00 and 18:00, and 6 thousand 435 MWh between 18:00 and 19:00. Thus, the total consumption between 16:00 and 19:00 was 19 thousand 419 MWh.

The lowest consumption of the day occurred between 04:00 and 05:00. During this time frame, 922 MWh of electricity was consumed at charging stations.

WEEKEND CONSUMPTION STANDS OUT

In the daily data for August, the weekend drew attention. 17 thousand 535 MWh of electricity was consumed on Saturday, and 17 thousand 280 MWh on Sunday. The highest daily consumption during the week was recorded on Monday with 14 thousand 995 MWh, and the lowest consumption was recorded on Tuesday with 11 thousand 64 MWh.

Growth in charging infrastructure also continues. As of today, there are 48 thousand 649 charging points across Turkey. 21 thousand 116 of these points are DC, meaning fast charging; and 27 thousand 533 are AC, meaning slow charging. It is stated that the increase in DC charging points contributes to users receiving charging services in a shorter time.

A significant portion of the electricity consumed in August was provided by green charging stations. 60 thousand 621 MWh of the total consumption, at a rate of 62.20 percent, took place at stations with YEK-G certificates. All of the electricity consumed at these stations is produced from renewable energy sources.

The Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK) reports that work continues toward establishing an adequate and sustainable charging infrastructure within the scope of its regulatory and supervisory activities regarding the charging service market.
