German automotive giants join forces in software: A new era begins in the sector

Eleven leading companies in the German automotive industry have taken a significant step in the sector by collaborating on software development.

The memorandum of understanding, signed during the 29th International Congress on Automotive Electronics, aims to establish a "pre-competitive" cooperation model for open-source software development. The initiative was launched with the support of the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA).

The statement emphasized that the speed and efficiency of software development in the automotive sector will be decisive in the future.

It was stated that the agreement will lay the foundation for an open and collaborative ecosystem in the sector. Through this partnership, companies aim to both share development costs and raise safety standards.

The platform to be created under the memorandum will offer participation opportunities not only to VDA member firms but also to other companies operating in the sector. Thus, it is planned to have the software package for autonomous driving technologies ready for mass production by 2026.

Signatories include major manufacturers such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW Group, and Volkswagen Group, as well as international suppliers like Bosch, Continental, and Valeo. With this collaboration, the goal is to create a strong German ecosystem in the automotive software field capable of competing with global technology giants.
