YENİ Party's plan against a snap election revealed

As debates over early and snap elections resurface in Ankara's political circles, it is claimed that the YENİ Party is preparing alternative plans against a possible election calendar.

The remarks made by AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during his speech in the Güneysu district of Rize, where he stated, “I reiterate my belief that we will successfully overcome the upcoming elections in this unity and solidarity,” have stirred up discussions regarding the election calendar in political circles.

According to insider information, the YENİ Party is evaluating risks stemming from the Election Law in the event of a possible snap election in March 2027. It is suggested that because the party is preparing to hold its first congress on November 14-15, there could be issues regarding election eligibility.

In this scenario, it is stated that the YENİ Party's executive staff is focusing on a “Plan B” that involves moving to another party that already meets the requirements to participate in elections. It is also noted that a special Central Executive Board (MYK) will be formed for the election process, and that the staff who will manage the campaign will be selected from experienced figures.

According to a report in Birgün, party sources argue that the government's attitude toward the opposition makes multiple preparations necessary. A party executive commented, “They know they will be gone in the first election. That is why they might do everything we think they ‘wouldn't do.’ We have not only a main plan and a backup plan, but also a backup to the backup.”

In the same circles, it is expressed that alliance discussions are not on the agenda for now, and that the unity described as a “grassroots alliance” will form at the ballot box. It is also stated that if Ekrem İmamoğlu's candidacy is blocked, the presidential candidate will be determined by asking the party members.

YENİ Party leader Özgür Özel also evaluated Erdoğan's election statements following a shopkeeper visit in Kars. Stating that they are “ready and willing” for an election, Özel said that an election is not a difficulty to be overcome, but the manifestation of the national will.
