The rich man's fund, the poor man's...

Look, the net worth of Angela Merkel, who served as Chancellor in Germany for 16 years, is 2 million Euros.

Yes, you heard that right. Only 2 million Euros, which is approximately 110 million TL.

However, the lowest figure mentioned by those in our country who make money from funds—or rather, those who gain illicit profits—starts in the billions of TL.

If this isn't greed, what is?

Why resort to so much trickery and deceit to earn money you couldn't spend in a lifetime? Where does this insatiable greed for money come from? What is the point of hoarding money in a bank that you cannot spend or enjoy? Isn't anything more than what you need just a piece of paper in the bank or a number on a screen?

I ask those around me, "Do you also have money trapped in the fund?" Most of them have their money stuck inside.

In fact, I ran into someone the other day. They had invested 1 million TL, and on paper, their money had become 50 million TL. Now they are crying out, "My 50 million is gone."

There are two dimensions to this issue.

First; my friend, your 1 million became 50 million in one year. And now you stand there saying, "My 50 million is gone." You never actually had that kind of money! Where in the world does money increase this much in such a short time? Doesn't a person ever feel the need to question this?

As for the second dimension...

The man put 1 million into the fund, the money rose to 50 million, but he is still waiting in the fund, he won't exit the system. Hey, what are you expecting that 1 million to become? 100, 200, 500 million?

This can't even be called greed anymore. You name it.

Believe me, when people see these astronomical figures, they completely lose the concept of money. Speaking of the concept of money, there is also a tragicomic side to this.

They are sitting in a coffee house talking. One says, "Those guys made off with 20 billion." The other replies, "What's the big deal, I even get a 25 billion pension." Our uncle still hasn't accepted the six zeros dropped from the currency.

Believe me, as a society, we have lost our compass.

But at the end of the day, there is only one truth to this matter, and it is this: This fund issue must be resolved, one way or another.
